I own both a dyson and a rianbow,

I have to say the rainbow is an amazing machine and traps all pollen and dust and anything it comes across, it is also the price of 4 Dyson vaccums. Also the rainbow is such a hassle draaging around and not being able to pull out of the closet and just vaccum. It traps more contaminants than the Dyson but is also way more expensive. If Dyson had a model that was 2200, Im pretty sure it would be an upright version of the rainbow, superior in everyway.
:)

Dyson makes amazing products, and for the money it really has the best airflow and suction on the market.

There is nothing like a Rainbow!!!!! It is worth all the time to hook up everything and drag it through the house like an elephant, to haave a clean home once you are finished. I have a great many allergies and until I started using the Rainbow, vacuuming was always a major chore and very unpleasant. (The Rainbow came with my new significant other...what a deal!)
My quick pick up cleaner is a little Shark.

I have a mid-80s Rainbow - and just bought a Dyson ball over the weekend.

There are pros and cons to each.

The Dyson is lightweight and even a clueless chimp could operate it effectively, and it does get up the dirt and animal hair and so forth. On the downside, when you empty the bagless canister, stuff gets back into the air; at 25', the cord is way too short; and because of the large size of the ball, it doesn't get under furniture.

The Rainbow is time consuming with all the water filling and emptying and hooking up hoses - but it gets up MORE dirt and animal hair and so forth in one sweep than the Dyson did in three or four. My cord is long enough to reach almost all thru the house from a central outlet without having to change outlets. Best of all, all the icky stuff is trapped in the water.

I may keep the Dyson as an 'everyday' vacuum, but for really cleaning, I'm hanging onto the Rainbow.

Oh, and I have a Roomba too - I love it for quick cleanups when I'm on short notice and need the vacuuming time to dust and swish the bathrooms!

In my experience, I have always found that Dysons suck more than Rainbow. "Suck" as in suck literally, not suck as in "not good".

I was going to sell Rainbow vacuums while in college. I went through the training classes and even though I never became a distributor I knew this was the best vacuum out there. I purchased one in '85 and I still have it! It works GREAT! I wouldn't have any other and it does get your house clean. I am in the mist of getting a repair done for a broken part (my fault) and I will get it fixed and keep my using my Rainbow. I considered a dyson but left it at that. Why bother?

The Dyson can pick up more hair and dirt. Much better when compared side by side to the overpriced Rainbow.
